ABOUT

This is our team:

Valentina Acava Mmaka  - Head of the team

I'm a writer, educator, activist and full time mother. Though I was born from Italian parents in Italy I grew up in South Africa. I started my career as a journalist in the early '90s travelling throughout the African continent.
I'm an active campaigner to End FGM using art as a tool of resistance and giving voice to the voiceless. I write for children, playwrights, novels, essays and poetry. I've published eleven books. You can check out my site.

Our philosophy

We are empathic people, we like to connect with others, share experiences and spread the news. We have a mission:  Raise awareness on Female Genital Mutilation,  share my work on this very subject, learn and witness what other countries are doing to eradicate it.
There is no place to call home. There's only one home for all and we want to offer our committment, resources and love to make it a better place to live.
We believe in our lifetime we can make a significant change and impact in those lives we have stumbled upon.

During this journey we will write reports, document, collect datas, interview people, present my work, learn, share, raise funds to create KUMA' ART FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE* and to support our ART CONTEST TO END FGM.

This team will spread the news, will make it worth, will make a change!

* Kumà Art for Social Justice is an open space for young activists who uses art to educate and promote social justice.
