MY WORK ON FGM

I encountered FGM for the first time in Kenya in the 90s while working with a collective of immigrant and local women at a social theatre project which ended with the play Wapi Mama.

In 2011, I worked with the Gugu Women Lab Collective in Cape Town,  at a writing project which aimed to find the interconnections between space and identity. We ended up writing a performance THE CUT to raise awareness on FGM as some of the women of the Gugu Women Lab Collective were FGM survivors coming from different African countries.

In 2012 THE CUT  received recognition from Amnesty for promoting human rights through ART.

Since 2013 I'm touring with my performance to speak about FGM and how it's possible to eradicate it, meeting communities, schools, teachers, medias, artists.

In 2014 I started working on my book:

THE CUT Testimonianze e Narrazioni. Voci del cambiamento per rompere il silenzio sulle Mutilazioni Genitali femminili  (KabilianaPress 2016). ITALIANO

THE CUT The power of art as resistance. Voices for change to break the silence on Female Genital Mutilation (soon). ENGLISH

In 2016 together with activists around the world we have started a campaign to work on eradicating FGM

In 2016 the journey continues with this family march.
